My ADHD Journey

I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until adulthood.

Like many of my clients, I spent years knowing I experienced the world differently without understanding why.

Looking back, ADHD had influenced almost every part of my life—my focus, emotions, relationships, energy and self-confidence.

Like many late-diagnosed adults, I had internalised messages that I was lazy, disorganised, careless or simply “too much.”

Receiving a diagnosis brought relief, but it also brought grief for the years spent trying to understand myself without the right language or support.

That experience fundamentally changed how I work as a therapist.

If you’re currently wondering whether ADHD may explain your own experiences, you may find my therapist-led online course helpful:

Why My Therapy Is Different

Many ADHD and autistic adults come to therapy after years of trying to make sense of experiences that nobody has been able to explain.

Some have attended therapy before but still felt misunderstood.

Others have been given strategies that never seemed to fit the way their brain actually works.

My approach is different because I don’t simply provide therapy to neurodivergent people.

I adapt therapy for neurodivergent people.

That means recognising experiences that are often overlooked, including:

  • Executive functioning difficulties
  • Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)
  • Alexithymia
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Masking
  • ADHD and autistic burnout
  • Nervous system regulation
  • Interoception
  • Emotional regulation
  • Monotropism

Rather than asking,

“How do we help you fit into the world?”

we ask,

“How do we help the world make more sense to your brain?”

Therapy isn’t about changing who you are.

It’s about understanding how your brain works, reducing self-blame, and developing strategies that genuinely fit your life.

Many clients tell me they’ve had therapy before but, for the first time, feel their neurodivergent experiences have been understood rather than overlooked.

Professional Background

Alongside my lived experience of ADHD, I bring over a decade of clinical experience working with neurodivergent adults and mental health.

My work combines evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with specialist knowledge of ADHD, autism and neurodiversity.

Throughout my career I’ve worked in a range of settings, including:

  • Pieta – Crisis Intervention and Psychotherapy
  • Croom Family Resource Centre – Community Mental Health Support
  • Autism Supporting Diversity Ireland – Therapy and Advocacy for Autistic Individuals and Families

Today I work in private practice providing therapy both in person in Limerick and online across Ireland and internationally.

Beyond the Therapy Room

Alongside clinical work, I provide:

  • CPD training for therapists, psychologists and healthcare professionals
  • Workplace neurodiversity training
  • Education sector training
  • Conference presentations and keynote speaking
  • Public education through blogs, podcasts, webinars and media interviews

I’m passionate about improving understanding of ADHD, autism and neurodivergence while helping professionals and organisations better support neurodivergent people.

My Approach

I believe therapy should be a place where you don’t have to explain why your brain works differently.

A place where masking isn’t expected.

A place where your experiences make sense.

Understanding often comes before change.

When people finally understand why they experience the world the way they do, they’re often able to replace years of self-blame with self-understanding.

For me, that’s where meaningful therapy begins.
